Jennifer Forrest was admitted to the bar by her father Winston, in the High Court at Invercargill yesterday.
Mr Forrest, who has now retired, was emotional after the ceremony.
‘‘To be honest, I'm slightly choked. It is a very emotional experience. It feels real and I always feel respect by the court itself and the law.
‘‘She is a good person and will be a good lawyer with ethics and rules.
‘‘I'm very proud.’’
Ms Forrest was delighted.
‘‘I'm feeling proud and a little bit of relief as well, just to finally have it all settled.’’
Just as her father had, she graduated from the University of Otago and was working at the Southland firm Preston Russell Law.
Mr Forrest said he was also proud his daughter completed a bachelor of science in zoology degree at the same time.
Ms Forrest said she would like to eventually work in environment law .
She was one of four lawyers admitted to the bar yesterday.
Kozett Guise-Smith from Gore, Debbie Crawford and Hannah Copeland were also sworn in.
