A fire investigator has inspected a house in Bluff this morning to determine the cause of a house fire.
A Fire Service spokesman said crews from Bluff and Invercargill were called to a house fire in McDougall St about 4.15am today.
The occupants of the house were outside and uninjured when the crews arrived, he said.
On arrival, a fire was burning in the roof cavity above the lounge of the house, he said.
Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the blaze and then used a chainsaw to cut a hole in the ceiling to search the roof cavity.
The cause of the fire was "not obvious''.
A fire investigator from Invercargill was deployed and examined the house this morning to try and determine the cause, he said.
The investigators findings had not be released, he said.
A police spokeswoman said police were not called to attend.
