Michael Bruce Haynes, of Southland, whose name suppression was lifted yesterday, pleaded guilty to the amended charge, bringing a halt to the jury trial which began in the Invercargill District Court on Monday.
Haynes had pleaded guilty to four charges prior to the trial; strangulation, threatening to kill, breach of protection order and injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, all of which happened on November 24, 2020.
Crown prosecutor Sarah McKenzie said while one injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm charge was withdrawn the other injuring with intent charge would become like a representative charge accounting for assaults which took place inside and outside the car.
Judge Duncan Harvey excused the jury, convicted Haynes and remanded him in custody to appear for sentence on May 4.
