Here today, gone the same day.

Two unauthorised election signs appeared among the authorised signs by the side of State Highway 84 near Wanaka and Cardrona Valley Rd, yesterday.

A contractor removed the signs in the afternoon, after the Queenstown Lakes District Council was told about them.

Both signs promoted a candidate named ''Mackie'' for mayor, but no candidate standing in the Wanaka or Queenstown area has that name.

Council communications manager Michele Poole said now that the signs were removed the council would not be taking the matter any further.

All election signs must be approved by local authorities and display the candidate's full name.
