Send-off for Crump model

A man who some suspect was the model for Barry Crump’s quietly spoken character Clarence in his book A Good Keen Man was eulogised at a memorial gathering in Makarora yesterday attended by (from left) his great-granddaughters Maia Duncan (15) and Jade Duncan (13) and granddaughter Susan Duncan.

Alan Duncan, who died at his Timaru home in June,  was a well-known venison hunter and helicopter pilot  — particularly in the Makarora area, where he hunted and flew for many years.

Susan, Maia and Jade brought together many of those who knew him for a story-telling session yesterday.
