Wilf Spearing, of Wanaka, grinds through the last leg of the Linger and Die Enduro race yesterday.

Rain and a cold snap caused the final lap of the 32km race to be called off. Organiser Phil Oliver said there were no injuries and everyone seemed happy with the event.

"It was just getting a bit cold and wet towards the end there so we thought it would get a bit dangerous."

Of the 180 competitors, Melissa Newell, of Wanaka, won the women’s section and David Ashby-Coventry, of Dunedin,  the men’s.

In  the 2.5km downhill race on Saturday, which attracted 100 entrants, the men’s  section was won by Matt Scoles, of Christchurch, and the women’s by Georgia Wight, of Alexandra.
