"I remember thinking I wanted a bigger allocation and I remember wanting to choose what was in there and not what was just established."
Now, as a mother to Amelia, 2, and her second child due in about three weeks, Ms Turner is in the middle of her first tulip harvest at her Luggate property.
Having seen the nearby Wanaka Lavender Farm and Red Bridge Berries succeed in the local and tourism market, Ms Turner and her partner Mark Rapsey bought their 5ha section years ago, where they have hand-planted 7000 bulbs in 10 varieties.
"The shapes range from simple to very intricate and it is lovely when you put them together," Ms Turner said.
"The idea was to see if the tulips would grow up here well, just knowing that they do like a bit of water. Thankfully, we have had this beautiful wet spring."
She puts her green thumb down to her Southland farming genes.
"I am like ‘Oh my God, I am a combination of my parents’. Dad was farming and Mum was the flowers."
If successful, Ms Turner sees this as a new lifestyle and business venture she can bring her children into, and pass on the very same love for farming, flowers and the outdoors to them.
"I am trying to create that environment that Mum created for us, growing up around nature."
