From left, Lance-corporal Scott Moses, of Dunedin, Private Richard Merriman and Lance-corporal Miles Romanes, both from Queenstown, are pictured on patrol during the exercise.
About 50 soldiers from Invercargill to Oamaru, and inland to Central Otago, took part in field training activities on Hukarere Station, near the Leithen Bush Reserve at Heriot.
The soldiers engaged in section and platoon level "attacks" in open country from Friday to Sunday, training with four weapons: machine guns, grenade launcher, light support weapons and Steyr rifles.
Staff Sergeant Bobby Proctor, of Dunedin, said the exercise was held in a "challenging" area and was a good opportunity for soldiers to practise firing live rounds before a big exercise in the Waitaki and Mckenzie areas later this month.
