Caution urged over Covid at hospital

Nearly 15% of patients at Southland Hospital have Covid-19.

The hospital reported yesterday it had 12 patients out of 85 with Covid-19.

No visiting restrictions are in place and no wards have been closed to visitors.

There are no patients with Covid in the mental health or children’s wards.

Southland Hospital general manager Simon Donlevy said he reminded visitors to the hospital to stay away if they were unwell and recommended the wearing of masks.

"Hospitals are very busy over winter so unless you are very unwell, please use other services such as your local GP or community pharmacist."
