It formed part of the Tussock Country Music Festival, held from May 22 to 31 in Gore.
The 40-plus dancers followed instructor Diane Perkins, of Gore, through three-, or four-step dances to a range of tunes.
Experienced campaigner Brian Elder, 92, of Gore, who had done ballroom dancing for most of his life and line dancing for about eight years weekly at the Gore RSA, said to succeed at line dancing, “sensing the rhythm of the music” was essential.
Mr Elder said any opportunity to dance he would “get on the feet and go.”
Athol couple Angela and Steve Lamaletie travelled down for the festival. Mrs Lamaletie said she found the line dancing so enjoyable she is considering travelling to Gore weekly to attend the lessons Mr Elder rarely missed.
