Police received a report of the incident in Rimu St at about 11.15am.
St Patrick’s School was contacted by police and the school was placed under lockdown as a precaution, though this was lifted about 12.30pm.
Armed police were seen in the Metzger and Rimu St area, near Elizabeth Park.
St Patrick’s School principal Callan Goodall said pupils remained in their classrooms and continued with the day.
The 300-pupil school trained for these situations and the school day continued after the lockdown was lifted.
Police said later it had no update on whether the person seen holding an alleged firearm had been located. — APL
