Still state of emergency

Southland remains under a state of local emergency following severe damaging winds that struck the region almost two weeks ago.

On October 23, strong gusts that hit the region around noon, and caused widespread damage to property, trees, utilities and infrastructure across the South.

PowerNet chief executive Paul Blue said

115 customers in Southland and 205 customers in Otago were without power.

Emergency Management Southland said councils around the region were continuing to assess the extent of the damage. — Allied Media
