The Mid City Magic has finished a dominant season with a big win.

It ran out a 108-76 victor over Southland club champion Thundercats in Invercargill on Saturday.

There was a clear gap in the level of play, as the Magic dominated virtually every aspect of the game.

Its fast pace proved too much for the Southland team, as it scored with ease in transition, a product of its quick running and passing game.

The Thundercats defended in a 2-3 zone for the majority of the game, but the Magic had no problem breaking it down.

There was plenty of space in the middle for its guards to exploit, while it was also a constant threat when it got the ball to the short corner.

A fast start enabled the Magic to take a 9-2 lead, before a Thundercats time out stemmed the momentum.

It was not enough to stop the Magic taking a 26-17 lead though, as Benoit Hayman and Josh Aitcheson scored 14 and 10 points respectively, proving too much to stop early.

A strong start to the second quarter enabled the Thundercats to bring the difference back to three, but a strong final two minutes meant the Magic went to halftime with a 47-36 lead.

The Magic bew the game open at the start of the third quarter, going on a 14-0 run before the Thundercats called a time out.

It was in that period that the transition dominance started, Richie Rodger particularly impressing with his passing ability, while Darcy Knox ran well.

The onslaught continued throughout the rest of the third quarter, as the Thundercats struggled to get to the hoop and settled for outside shots.

When the buzzer went the Magic led 81-54 and held that to run out a comfortable winner.

Hayman finished with an impressive 42 points while Aitcheson had 19.

For the Thundercats, big man Connor Coll, called in to boost the  side, led the way with 25.

Former Magic player Andrew Wheeler had 13 points for the home team.
