Otago men, women to fore in 3x3 sides

There will be plenty of Otago flavour across the 3x3 Cup in Invercargill this week.

Caleb Smiler, Michael Ruske and Darcy Knox will play for the Otago Nuggets in the men’s grade, while Caitlin O’Connell, Tyler Mitchell, Nat Ivamay and Elise Carline will represent the Southern Hoiho in the women’s division.

However, Otago Nugget Matthew Bardsley will link up with the Taranaki Airs, Southern Hoiho player Zoe Richards will play for the Tokomanawa Queens, and Jen O’Connell will represent the Southland Storm.

The competition, starting today and finishing on Saturday, will feature 24 men’s and women’s teams playing 178 games in four days at Stadium Southland.

The series will also feature the first 3x3 transtasman series as the Tall Ferns and Tall Blacks face Australia throughout the week.

Each national team plays their opposition twice each night in a bid to win the 3x3 transtasman challenge plate.
