Brooke Craik (Fairfield) came out on top despite getting a verbal battering from her Australian opponents.
Craik (18), a pupil at St Hilda's Collegiate, was a guest player in the Auckland under-18 team that beat Queensland 5-2 in the transtasman series in Auckland recently.
It was Craik's first international.
''It was a bit scary at first,'' she said.
''The Aussies play a different game to us. They are more vocal and comment on each bowl that is played.
''It was the loudest week of bowls I've ever played.
''I thought it would put me off, but it didn't. It made me more and more determined.''
Craik, the granddaughter of Bowls Dunedin secondary schools convener Anne Craik, joined the Fairfield Bowling Club five years ago.
She has competed in the New Zealand secondary schools championships for the past three years.
She finished fourth in the girls singles in Wellington this month.
Her record in the Across the Ditch championships in Auckland was impressive.
She won all seven of her games - singles 21-20, mixed pairs 20-9, women's pairs 18-17, 23-6 and women's triples 15-14, 22-18, 18-12.
She will be playing in the fours at the New Zealand championships, which start in Dunedin on Saturday.
