Cricket: Sparks sign Middlesex seamer as overseas player

Middlesex right-arm seamer Natasha Miles will join the Otago Sparks as the overseas player this summer.

The 21-year-old is playing for Middlesex in the LV Women's County Championship. She has taken 17 wickets at an average of 16.67 and scored 202 runs at 15.54.

Sparks coach Nathan King said Miles was a member of the MCC young cricketers at Lord's and had a strong desire to represent England. She is a very useful player.

"Ideally, she will open the bowling or bowl first-change for us," King said, adding she was handy middle-order right-hand batsman.

"She has a wide range of shots and is a very compact, technically correct sort of player."

Miles is expected to make an impact on the league with her athleticism and wide range of skills. She will also assist with managing and coaching various girls teams in the region.

Miles arrives in Dunedin on November 26 and will be available for the duration of the twenty/20 and one-day campaigns.

The revamped women's domestic competition will start on December 10 with the first round of the twenty/20 tournament.
