Green Island captain Mark Joyce was named cricketer of the year as his club swept the major honours at the Dunedin Cricket Association awards last night.
The experienced all-rounder helped his club claim the Bing Harris Shield for the fifth time in six years, averaging 21.4 with the bat and taking 41 wickets.
His team won the twenty/20 and both one-day tournaments, as well as the Declaration Cup.
Green Island seamer Dion Lobb won the bowler of the year award with 45 wickets, at an average of 11.1, and team-mate Scott Simpson won the batting title with 554 runs, at an average of 46.20.
University-Grange's Cam Rutherford scored the quickest century, whacking 100 off just 41 deliveries.
Former Otago batsman Shaun Haig was named umpire of the year in his debut season.
North East Valley's Jerram Bateman received the award for outstanding contribution of the year for his work at the club.
He is the club secretary, co-club captain and bar manager. The roles involve a huge time commitment and good people skills. He is also a core member of the senior team and, during the past two years, has made significant contributions to the club's junior coaching programme.
The Gordon McGregor Trophy for service to cricket went to John Moyle, from Green Island.
Moyle has served on the Green Island Cricket Club committee for more than 20 years, including three stints as club president.
He is an active member of the Sunnyvale Redevelopment Committee and has been described as ''humble, hard working and a lover of the traditions of cricket''.
