New Zealand were thumped by more than 200 runs in their first Super Six game at the under-19 world cup in South Africa yesterday.

India posted a formidable total of 295 for eight in Bloemfontein and New Zealand crashed to be all out for a paltry tally of 81.

India’s Musheer Khan stroked 131 from 126 deliveries — his second century in three innings — and grabbed two for 10 to help set up the monster 214-run win.

Khan, who became just the second Indian with multiple centuries in a single edition of the under-19 world cup since Shikhar Dhawan in 2004, had good support
from opener Adarsh Singh (52) and captain Uday
Saharan (34).

Queenstown’s Mason Clarke was the best of the New Zealand bowlers. He nabbed four for 62, and Dunedin’s Zac Cumming returned one for 37.

Cumming also chipped in with 16 with the bat. But the chase unravelled quickly.

Tom Jones was bowled first ball of the innings and Snehith Reddy also went for a duck in the opening over.

He shouldered arms and was trapped lbw by right arm medium pacer Raj Limbani (two for 17), who was getting his inswinger going nicely.

Left-arm spinner Saumy Paney struck even more regularly from the other end.

He snatched four for 19 from 10 overs.

Captain Oscar Jackson top-scored for New Zealand with 19 but his young men were bowled out in the 29th over for their third lowest total in the history of the tournament.

Pakistan edged Ireland by three wickets and West Indies beat Sri Lanka by three wickets in the other two games.

New Zealand’s final game is against Ireland on Saturday.

They cannot make it through to the semifinals regardless of the result.
