Sillars sets up win for leader

Green Island 88 lost to Caris-Dunedin
89 for seven by three wickets

Carisbrook-Dunedin cemented its place at the top of the competition standings with a three-wicket win against Green Island at Tonga Park on Saturday.

Medium-pacer Richard Sillars took five for 45 to help dismiss Green Island for a paltry 88. That target ended up proving more challenging than expected for the home side  and  Green Island veteran medium-pacer Dion Lobb also proved a challenge with the ball.

Lobb snared four for 37 but Peter Grant held his nerve and the tail together with a valuable undefeated knock of 19. It does not sound much but it was huge in the context of the game.

Brad Horne (21) and Kieran Eathorne (14) were the only other Carisbrook-Dunedin batsmen to pass double figures. But the victory was set up by Sillars. He trapped opener Nathan Watt lbw for a duck and bowled Joel Meade before he could get off the mark.

Green Island found itself 13 for three partway through the fifth over and could not construct any meaningful partnerships. Kevin Loggenberg saved further blushes with 38 from 43 deliveries but Sillars returned to help wrap up the innings.

Taieri 125 lost to Kaikorai 129
for one by nine wickets

Kaikorai was the only team able to get on top of the bowling in the weekend and smashed Taieri by nine wickets.

Spinner Hamish Robertson made the most of a turning deck at Bishopscourt and took five for 51 from 17.1 overs to help set up the win. And all-rounder Geordie Scott grabbed three for 23 in a tight 13-over spell as Taieri collapsed to be all out for 125.

The Frost brothers provided some resistance. Brad scored 37 at the top before he was trapped lbw by Scott, and Marcus chipped in with 20 down the order, while Dan Greenwood stepped up from second grade and made 25.

Kaikorai made short work of the chase with Josh Bates cracking six fours and six sixes in an undefeated 71 from 50 deliveries. He was strong off the back foot and played some memorable pull shots.

Rhys Bayly did not find batting too much of a chore, either. He stroked 54 not out from 41 balls. The pair put on an unbroken stand of 122 for the second wicket.

Albion 122 lost to North East Valley
123 for eight by two wickets

North East Valley keeper Adam Miles steered his side to a tense two-wicket win against Albion with an undefeated half century at Logan Park.

In a game which was mostly dominated by the bowlers, Miles shone, hitting nine fours and collecting 56 runs from 73 deliveries.

Earlier, it was his team-mate Bailey Andrews-Kennedy who was doing the hard work. The right-arm medium-pacer took five for 37 to help dismiss Albion for 122.At one stage Albion was 17 for five but Dan Duke (43) and Harrison Durkin (42 not out) rallied, putting on 58 for the sixth wicket.

North East Valley was cruising towards victory until Jamie Glenn came on and took three wickets in one over. The right-arm medium-pacer took three for 14 from five overs. Dexter Marsh bowled well with three for 25 as well but Miles came to the rescue for Valley.
