Otago riders Elyse Fraser and Brad Evans continued their dominance in the third round of the Benchmark elite series on Saturday.

The course ran from Hanmer Springs to Kaikoura, finishing atop the Ocean Ridge development which encompasses a 2km uphill drive boasting 360deg panoramic views of the coastline and nearby mountains.

Evans (Calder Stewart) finished fourth to retain the under-23 jersey and, significantly, grab hold of the open men's jersey.

Commonwealth Games track cyclist Dylan Kennett, of Waimate, won the race ahead of Michael Vink and Evans' team-mate, Jack Ford.

Evans will miss the next two rounds due to racing in the United States. However, his lead is such that he might just be able to claim overall series honours.

Fraser (Benchmark Homes) flew up the hill to win and tighten her grip on the women's series. Police training may have interrupted her training but it does not seem to have interfered with her fitness.

Paul Gough, the first-round winner in the masters 45-49 division, is tied for first on points but has had to surrender the jersey on a countback.

Tess Molloy is a member of the winning women's team section, Cycle World Fairweather.

The series resumes in August and has three races to run.

It could hardly have been a better week for the Cycling Otago club.

Alex McGregor and Evans claimed silver in the elite and under-23 men's time trial at the club road nationals in Cambridge, and followed up with gold medals in the road race.

These outstanding performances were backed up by masters riders Jan Brosnahan and Ross Gamble reaching the podium in both events.

Midweek, former Otago riders Reta Trotman and Greg Henderson were named in the New Zealand team to contest the road race at the Commonwealth Games, with Trotman a possibility in the time trial.

The Tour de Femme in Cromwell on Saturday resulted in Otago riders Mary Gray, Ruby Knight and Lorraine Stewart winning their respective grades.
