Title champs Green Island AFC host neighbours Mosgiel AFC at Sunnyvale on Saturday at 2:45pm.
“Like us, I am sure Cam and his team will be wanting to finish on a high,” GI head coach Shane Carvell said.
For GI the last few games have seen a minor blip to a fantastic season, and they have been training with a fresh fervency and intensity to turn this around for the coming weekend.
Shane and the team want to put in a solid performance to come home strongly in front of a home crowd of supporters.
“I am sure it will be a good flowing game, with two good teams battling it out as it has happened already on two previous occasions this season, with quality individual match-ups and club pride on the line.”
Mosgiel head coach Cam McPhail said they are missing two key players in Alex Cox, and Lewis Wall for the fixture.
“The squad as a whole has stepped up in their absence, especially some of the club's promising young players who have gained valuable first team experience;” said McPhail.
With the Mosgiel reserves playing in the Chinese Charity Cup on Saturday, the Mosgiel prem squad will be paper thin.
Regardless, they are aiming to finish the season with a positive performance.
From Cam’s point of view, it has been another successful season for the Prem team and the club as a whole.
“We weren’t able to defend our 2019 title, but to back up and finish in the top-2 is still a good achievement that the players should be proud of.
“The development of young players, several of whom have made their prem team debuts this season, has been especially pleasing and bodes well for the future,” he said.
McPhail would like to thank Football South, the match officials, and all the other clubs for making this season possible in what has been a challenging time for us all.
University AFC host Wanaka AFC in an evening game under lights at the Turf.
Wanaka head coach Ian Bell and the team are looking forward to the last game to finish off a challenging but fruitful season.
Although a number of players are missing with long-term injuries, Bell has the chance to play the same starting 11 for the first time this season.
“Last week's win over GI gives us the confidence that we can hold our own against the other top-4 sides.
University will be out to avenge the previous 1-0 loss sustained when they last played Wanaka.
They also hold the Blair Davidson Shield, which they won from Wanaka back in round 9 so both teams have a lot to play for.
Bell respects that Uni will be a different proposition on their home turf.
“Key players for Wanaka will be captain Thomas Van Hees, and attacking players Adam Hewson and Steve Pleskun."
