Football South patron Blair Davidson (left) and Dunedin Technical coach Aaron Burgess hold the Blair Davidson Challenge Trophy yesterday.

The trophy, named after the long-time football stalwart, is a new feature of the Football South premier league.

It is modelled along the lines of rugby's Ranfurly Shield and will be at stake on all home games of the holder.

The shield, which was donated by long-time sponsor Brandwell Moller, has been presented to Dunedin Technical, which won the league last year. It will instantly put the new trophy on the line when it takes on Queenstown Rovers at Tahuna Park this afternoon.

Technical coach Aaron Burgess said the shield was a good idea and was a welcome addition to the league.
