Football: Pignata steps down as Phoenix boss

Tony Pignata has resigned as chief executive of the Wellington Phoenix after three seasons with the A-League soccer club.

Pignata has been at the helm of the club since its inception in 2007, and his resignation is due to personal reasons. His wife and sons moved back to Melbourne last year and he has decided to join them.

Pignata previously spent 18 years in investment banking before becoming chief executive of Football Federation Victoria.
