No TV coverage of cup

Dunedin Technical fans will have to rely on text messages or the bush telegraph if they want to follow their team in the Chatham Cup final tomorrow night.

There is no live or delayed television coverage of the game between Technical and East Coast Bays at North Harbour Stadium.

"It's hugely disappointing that the premier club knockout tournament in New Zealand football isn't being covered," Dunedin Technical president Stephen Dunn said yesterday.

"We've got to travel to Auckland, to a so-called neutral venue, and we can't even have it televised for our club people down here to watch. I suspect it's a cost thing but it's still disappointing."

Dunn said the club had about 50 to 60 supporters flying to North Shore for the final.

He expected they would be inundated with calls and messages for updates from the game.

The club had planned to open its rooms from 4pm tomorrow so supporters could gather to have a drink and watch the final, but that plan was spoiled, Dunn said.

A Sky Television spokesman said highlights of the Chatham Cup final would screen on the World of Football show on September 18.

Messages of support to Dunedin Technical can be emailed to stephend@orbit.co.nz or faxed to (09) 418-0365.
