Several Southern United players will soon have an opportunity on the national stage.

Four players from last year's women's team will attend the New Zealand under-20 ID camp from April 23-26 - Lara Wall, Mikayla Gray, Ruby Anderson and Britney-Lee Nicholson.

Two new scholarship players, Hannah Mackay-Wright and Rose Morton, were also selected for the camp.

It follows two years of success for women's football in the South that had generated discussion as to whether more players from the region deserved national recognition.

Part of that success was Dunedin Technical's Kate Sheppard Cup triumph in Auckland last year.

It will have a bye as the 2019 edition begins on May 11 and 12, as will Green Island.

However, Mosgiel will play Otago University and Roslyn Wakari will play Queenstown in the first round, which was drawn yesterday.

In the men's Chatham Cup, three southern games will be played in the first round, held over Easter and Anzac Day.

Mornington faces West End, Geraldine plays Grants Braes and Thistle will take on Gore Wanderers.

The remaining teams have a first-round bye.
