Strikers’ early goals put paid to Otago

A flurry of early goals sank Otago on day three at the Super Cup tournament.

It trailed 4-0 after 30 minutes and went on to lose 6-2 against Strikers FC in Northern Ireland.

The loss was Otago’s second of the tournament, to go with a win over County Londonderry in its second game.

Strikers, from the United States, put on a classy attacking performance, Ryshaun McCann leading the way with three goals.

His first was a pearler, too.

In the 10th minute, with seemingly nothing on, he found the back of the net with a left foot chip from about 40m out.He received the ball in acres of space and put it high to the left of the goal.

The wind took towards the top right corner, and it came down just over the hands of keeper Mitchell Skudder-Dey.

Strikers made it two 10 minutes later, through Coby Atkinson, who slotted a penalty after a hand ball in the box.

McCann added another in the 28th minute, finding himself in acres of space in the box and completing a more regulation finish.

He completed his hat trick a minute later, finishing at a tight angle in the box.

Otago got one back at that point, after being denied by the keeper 30 seconds earlier.

Rory Findlayson finished with a nice flick with his left foot from a corner.

He volleyed it past the keeper, receiving the ball just to the left of the goal.

It scored its second goal 10 minutes later via a corner too, this time an own goal from Fabian Uriostegui.

Otago went to the break at 4-2, briefly giving itself a sniff.

However, that was snuffed out early in the second half, as McCann chipped a ball over the Otago defence to find Tristan Weber in space in the box.

He finished with ease, before scoring his second when he took two dribbles towards the middle of the box and finished through a gap in the scrambling Otago defence.
