
The Taieri athlete wound up a big final throw of 12.83m to win gold in the women’s para shot put at the Oceania Athletics Championships in Darwin on Wednesday.
Robinson (F46) unleashed early with a throw of 12.72m to put herself in a comfortable position ahead of the pack.
She threw 11.83m, 12.27m, 12.25m, and 12.45m before pulling out her title-winning attempt on the last throw to extend her lead.
Her winning throw of 12.83m (96.32%) earned top spot, while fellow Kiwi Paralympian Lisa Adams (F37) won silver with 13.61m (87.80%).
Robinson won via percentage, a scoring system used when athletes with different levels of impairment are competing against each other.
Otago shot putter Josh Chisholm (F40), who was also the New Zealand team’s flag bearer, came 12th in the men’s para shot put with 4.57m (41.50%).
Canterbury sprinter Tiaan Whelpton charged home to win bronze in the men’s 100m in 10.30sec, behind Australian Joshua Azzopardi, who won in 10.21sec.
Hayato Yoneto (Aspiring) came eighth in 10.74sec.
New Zealand Olympian Lauren Bruce dominated the women’s senior hammer throw with a comfortable distance of 70.64m.
Her closest rival was Australian Stephanie Ratcliffe, who took silver in 68.12m.
