League: Price, World Cup coming to Dunedin

Two special guests will be in Dunedin this weekend as part of the renewed push to lift the profile of rugby league in Otago.

It has taken a while but the Rugby League World Cup will finally make its way south.

Nearly two years after the Kiwis shocked the Kangaroos in the final, the World Cup will be displayed at the Meridian Mall between 1pm and 4.30pm on Saturday.

And accompanying the trophy will be Warriors great and honorary Kiwi Steve Price, who is available to talk to fans and sign autographs.

"Steve will be in the city for the afternoon and is keen to meet as many people as he can in the time that he is here," New Zealand Rugby League southern zone manager Steve Martin said.

"It's great to have someone of his stature involved. League is getting back on its feet in Otago, and this is another boost."

Price will also meet local players before Saturday afternoon games start at Hancock Park.

The weekend of league will continue at Hancock Park on Sunday with a "roots camp" starting at 9.30am.

NZRL coaches Dan Floyd and Tony Kemp will offer skill activities games for children and parents interested in trying rugby league.

"We're encouraging anybody who wants to find out more about league and the skills involved to come and have a look," Martin said.
