College A came out on top in a defensively dominant performance over Physed C, 63-30 in the premier club competition at the Edgar Centre on Saturday.

The first quarter set the tone for the game, as both teams' defensive ends turned over ball before either team was able to score.

Although there were turnovers both ways, College A was still able to convert much of the possession it got into the shooting circle, thanks to a solid shooting performance from goal shoot Billie Scurr.

Pass placement from both teams on attack appeared to be a problem, as they both struggled to find clean ball into their shooters.

After going out to an 8-1 lead, College continued to dominate the scoring, and by the end of the first quarter was up 16-5.

The second quarter had a very low scoring start, with only 10 goals being scored in the first eight minutes between the two teams.

The low scoring continued right through the second period, as the defence on both sides did its best to disrupt the flow of the opposition on attack.

Dani Gray, wing defence for College, snaffled several intercepts, as well as tips, to keep her side in possession.

Even though it was low scoring, College built its lead by one to go into the long break ahead 25-13.

College gained a bit of momentum in the third period, that had seemed to missing in the second quarter, helped significantly by goal defender Renaye Flockton continuing to add to her collection of intercepts for the game.

The attacking end for College looked far more settled with their feeds to the circle, even with Anna Henderson disrupting things through the midcourt at centre for Physed.

With some calmness on attack, College began to really roll on the goals to take the score out to a difference of 20 going into the final break of the game, 42-22.

College A continued to strangle Physed's attacking play in the final quarter, as Gray and Flockton continued to collect tips and intercepts.

Wing attack Julia Law and goal keep Ella Wood both chipped in with some impressive turnovers of their own.

With the momentum swinging well and truly College's way the side went on to win the quarter 21-8 and take the final score out to a convincing 63-30.

In other games, there was a tight tussle between Southern Magpies and St Hilda's Collegiate Senior A, and the teams were unable to be separated, the match finishing in a 49-49 draw.

Physed A put on a dominant performance over Physed B, 73-37 while South Pacific Titans A took the win over Physed Blue, 56-31.

Club netballers now have a two-week break over the University holidays.

Competition resumes on July 6.
