
Southern produced a strong first half, leading 28-16 at halftime, to eventually beat Physed A 49-44 at the Edgar Centre on Saturday.
Southern came out nicely and held a 16-7 lead at the quarter break.
They laid the foundation in the opening five minutes, jumping out to a 6-1 lead early and maintaining it throughout the game.
Physed defender Maggie Manson was an imposing threat over the shot, but Southern goal attack Harriett Cuttance steadied the Magpies attack.
She was always the release when they needed through Physed’s defence pressure, drove hard along the base and slotted some nice goals for her side.
Physed had a big second half — winning 28-21 — but could not make up the ground they lost earlier.
University Albion A continued their unbeaten run, dispatching St Hilda’s Collegiate — who had a big week, winning the Otago secondary schools title — 66-44.
Neave Beattie was accurate in the first half, slotting 23 from 24 for Uni Albion.
The defending champions were dominant in the third quarter, winning 21-7, but St Hilda’s came back to win the final quarter 13-10.
College A beat Columba College 68-38 to stay second on the table.
Kiana Pelasio shifted to wing attack in the second half, allowing Ella Mackenzie to be injected at goal attack.
She shot at 100%, slotting all 19 goals.
South Pacific Titans Taiko had a good battle against club-mates Titans Titi, eventually holding on for a 50-45 win.
Club netball will now take a break for the university holidays, resuming on July 18.
