Last gasp goal gets Steel over line

A last second goal to George Fisher has helped the Southern Steel to a dramatic victory.

She rebounded her own miss to give the side a 59-58 win over the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic at the Edgar Centre tonight.

The Steel led most of the way and held a seven-goal buffer early in the fourth quarter.

However, the Magic rallied and erased the deficit with one minute left.

It was unable to take the lead though and with the scores tied, Fisher converted in the final second to allow the Steel to escape.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

You can help us continue to bring you local news you can trust by becoming a supporter.
