Wellington piled on nine unanswered goals in the third period and swept to a 67-49 win.
Otago coach Deb Tasi-Cordtz said her side let itself down with a substandard performance.
"It was schoolgirl kind of stuff, really," she said.
"A lot of them need to take a good look in the mirror.
"We were in the match at halftime but made too many mistakes in the third quarter. Our heads went down and it was an uphill battle after that, really."
Wellington started strongly, easing to a 17-13 lead after the first quarter. Otago closed the gap to three goals at halftime but a series of errors shortly after the break conceded any momentum.
Wellington goal attack Jamilah Gupwell was outstanding, drilling 32 of her 35 attempts. She also got through a power of work in the midcourt along with Francis Solia and Ngarama Milner-Olsen.
No-one stood out for Otago, but shooter Te Paea Selby-Rickit had a reasonable game with 34 from 44 and the defensive unit got some good ball but was not able to build sustained pressure.
Otago has lost its first two games and must win two of its next three games to have any chance of reaching the semifinals.
Otago's next game is against bottom-placed Auckland-Waitakere at the Edgar Centre on Saturday.
