Well-versed team coaching Blast

There is plenty of experience across the Southern Blast's new coaching line-up.

Jo Morrison will lead a group that also includes Lana Morrison and Abbey McKenzie in guiding next year's Beko League side.

Excited to step up after being an assistant to Lauren Piebenga last year, Morrison said the trio had a ''wealth of knowledge'' between them.

The first trials for the squad would be held on November 2-3.

They were open to both the existing and emerging Blast squad, as well as players identified at the South Island senior championships and those coming down for university.

A summer training squad would be named before another trial in February, after which the team would be selected.

The team acts as a stepping stone to the Southern Steel and Steel coaches Reinga Bloxham and Lauren Piebenga would also be involved in picking it.

''It really comes down to players that are committed, fit and do the basics well and under pressure,'' Morrison said.

''We've seen that the last few games for the Silver Ferns, it's about executing those crucial skills when you're fatigued and being able to do it well.''
