Former Silver Fern Jane Watson has announced her retirement from professional netball, bringing an end to a 15-year career at the highest level.

Watson’s achievements include a World Cup, a Constellation Cup, dual ANZ Premiership titles — with the Southern Steel and Mainland Tactix — and dual premiership player of the year awards.

The 36-year-old, who moved to Millers Flat as a child and went to St Kevin’s College in Oamaru, wraps up her career with the Giants, after shifting to Australia to play Super Netball this season.

She has been sidelined with injury since April but is expected to play in the Giants’ final game this weekend.

‘‘This game has given me more than I ever could have imagined,’’ she said.

‘‘I’ve been lucky enough to experience unforgettable moments, build great friendships and have the honour of representing New Zealand doing something I love.

‘‘I’m so excited for this next chapter and for the opportunity to spend more time at home with the people I love most.’’

Watson spent two seasons with the Tactix before joining the Steel from 2015 to 2017, where she won the ANZ Premiership in 2017.

She returned to the Tactix in 2018 and won the ANZ Premiership title last year before signing with the Giants.

She earned her first Silver Ferns call-up while at the Steel in 2016, going on to play 66 games for New Zealand, winning the Netball World Cup in 2019. — RNZ/Allied Media
