It was the final tournament for the 21-year-old before she slips back into study mode for the remainder of 2019.
"It would be good to finish off the season by getting through the playoffs and into the semis," she said earlier yesterday.
A New Zealand representative since 2013, Thompson has juggled curling with her zoology studies at the University of Otago.
Like many of her curling peers, she hails from Maniototo and has risen through the ranks over the past six years.
Her pairing with Kyeburn's Hood carried local hopes as the Winter Games curling progressed into the knockout phase.
"We balance each other well - he gets his hit shots and I do my draw shots," she said.
The other two Kiwi combinations were edged out of playoff contention following a vigorous pool A round robin phase.
However, Thompson and Hood scrapped themselves into a transtasman quarterfinal showdown with Australians Tahli Gill and Dean Hewitt.
In the end, the Australian pair proved too good and their 8-4 win over the Kiwis yesterday booked them a spot in today's semifinals against Sweden.
The United States thumped Canada 10-2 in the other playoff match and will meet the unbeaten Korean outfit in the second semifinal.
