She is one of three Otago players selected in the 12-strong New Zealand senior (over 60) team for the transtasman competition against Australia at Wanganui on April 14 and 15.
New Zealand Masters Games champion Neville Frost and Alexandra's Marilyn Bunce have also been named in the team. They have represented New Zealand before.
They were named in the New Zealand team after the trials in Wellington last month.
Goodin (68) was a supporter when the transtasman event was held in Melbourne last year.
"When I got home I thought I'd give it a go myself," she said. "I'm really excited about it."
Goodin (nee Eason) grew up in Otautau and represented Western Southland at netball in her younger days. She injured her back during that time and has had three spinal operations since to ease the pain. She started playing petanque because it is a game that does not put any pressure on her back.
Goodin was made redundant from her job as an occupational therapist and wanted to get involved in a sport. She now works as an activity person at Thornbury House.
She and husband Nevill were dedicated to petanque from the start and built a full-sized piste at their Tomahawk home. Frost also has a piste at his home in St Clair.
