Hundreds of young athletes descended on the Caledonian Ground yesterday for the Otago Primary Schools athletics championships. 

Three records were broken.

In the boys 13-and-over high jump, Baxter Perkins Teame, of Balmacewen Intermediate, cleared 1.65m to beat the old mark of 1.58m set last year. In the girls under-12 long jump, Bella Pulley, of Abbotsford School and Sloane Smith, of Balmacewen Intermediate, shared the spoils, each leaping 4.48m, beating the previous record of 4.46, set in 2019.

Mason Fowler, of Balmacewen Intermediate, set the record in the under-13 shot put with 13.90m. He held the former record, setting it last year of 10.98m. He also holds the under-11 record of 10.71m.
