Waverley picked up its first win of the season and Dodgers took the easier path to the final in the penultimate day of senior men's softball at Ellis Park on Saturday.
In the post-Christmas tournament, Waverley, which joined the senior grade only after Christmas, managed a close 11-10 win over Cardinals.
Second baseman Grant Phillips led the way for the winner, hitting all four times he went to the plate.
He had a single, double and a triple but could not hit it over the fence to complete the full set.
Waverley was always in front but had to show cool heads at the end to hold off the Cardinals side.
In the final game of the post-Christmas tournament, Saints had too much weight in its bats for Ellis Park, winning 12-5.
It out-hit the home side 14-4, with Mark Ahlfield and Mike O'Neill to the fore.
The competition will be completed by a champion of champions final, the first play-off for which was late on Saturday.
Dodgers took on Saints, with the winner going straight through to the final.
Dodgers won 6-5, but only after some tight moments.
Scott Cartwright made two solid hits while youngster Ben Watts hit a crucial automatic home run, putting the ball over the centre field fence.
The three-match final next week will pit Dodgers against the winner of the match between Saints and Ellis Park next Saturday.
Ellis Park qualified for that game after it held out Cardinals 11-10.
Cardinals was ahead 7-4 at one stage but Ellis Park hit five runs at the bottom of the fifth inning, and then managed to hang on.
Catcher Scott Dundas showed some fine form with three hits, and the side managed to stay composed in the last inning as Cardinals tried desperately to get back ahead.
