Saints beat Cardinals 7-6 but were pipped 7-4 by bottom side Ellis Park. Saints are on 28 points, just one behind the new leaders.
Cam Watts gave Dodgers the ideal start in their game against Cardinals by whacking a solo homer at the top of the first inning.
Brother Matt Watts added a run-scoring double in the fourth but that was all the scoring through six innings, as the pitchers - a third Watts brother, Ben, and Jacob Wedlock - made scoring difficult.
Dodgers added two insurance runs in the seventh, leaving Glenn Forrester to hit a run-scoring double as the only consolation for Cardinals.
Against Ellis Park, Cardinals took control of the game with five runs at the top of the first inning, including what may be termed a ''Watts Slam'' - Matt hitting a home run with brothers Cam and Ben on base.
Matt Watts added a second dinger in the second inning - only Ben was on base this time - and another five runs had Dodgers up 10-2.
Ryan Williams blasted a three-run homer for Ellis Park in the third but Dodgers were able to protect their lead.
Williams also had a three-run blast in Ellis Park's upset win over Saints. He went long in the first inning with Gary Pointon and Will Meiklejohn on base.
Mitchell O'Neill fired a solo homer for Saints in the bottom of the first, and the game was in the balance at 3-1 through four innings.
Ellis Park made its move in the fifth, scoring four runs. Reggie Parata (two), Sean Bennett and Simon Wallace all had RBIs on singles.
Saints cribbed back three runs in the bottom of the seventh, two on errors and one on a sacrifice fly, but it was not enough.
Against Cardinals, Saints were also in trouble, trailing 6-3 going into the seventh inning, with Crete Whaanga providing the momentum for Cardinals with a two-run homer in the third inning.
The pressure was on for Saints and three of their stars delivered. O'Neill hit his second solo home run of the day, and both Michael Crowley (scoring two) and Travis McIntosh also hit homers to clinch victory.
