Guest (14), a pupil at Columba College, is the first swimmer from the 20-strong Daniels squad to compete internationally.
Lisa and Nina Daniels, Otago's flag bearers for over a decade, retired from the sport after competing at the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008 and are now putting time back into the sport as coaches at Moana Pool.
''It's exciting that we have got our first swimmer representing New Zealand,'' Lisa said.
Guest started synchronised swimming in 2009 and won her first New Zealand title in the under-12 event in 2012.
She won a bronze medal in the girls aged 13 to 15 grade at the New Zealand championships in Auckland last year and reached the qualifying standard at a trial early this year.
''I'm excited about representing New Zealand and will be aiming for a medal,'' Guest said.
''But I'm also quite nervous.''
She demonstrated she had mastered the basics of the sport while training at Moana Pool this week by being able to smile for the camera while treading water.
''I enjoy the sport. I like putting gelatine in my hair to hold it in place and putting on make up.''
That is an essential part of synchronised swimming and it usually takes an hour to prepare on competition day.
Lisa Daniels has confidence in Guest.
''At the national championships I could see her nerves come through,'' Lisa said.
''It is her first international competition and performing means a lot to her and she wants to do well.
''The competition is so big and if she can get over the nerves barrier, I think she will do well. She has improved significantly since the national championships.''
Guest spends five hours each week training in the water and also does land drills to stretch and develop flexibility.
She is a member of the Columba College water polo and netball teams. In her spare time, she plays the piano and enjoys singing. She is also a loyal member of the Dunedin City Baptist Church.
