The Brian and Shane Anderton trained 9yr-old will carry 59kg with rider Corey Campbell's 2kg claim in the 1400m Coupland's Mile Trial.
Gallant Boy was nominated to start at last week's Gore meeting until he was withdrawn after being handed a massive 64.5kg weight.
That meant the Andertons have had no choice but to put the reigning White Robe Lodge Weight-For-Age winner into tomorrow's race without a lead-up run.
"It is very frustrating. We would have liked to have given him a run at Gore," Shane Anderton said.
"He is being punished for his consistency."
Gallant Boy has made one public appearance ahead of his resumption, when trailing the front runners home in a jumpout at Wingatui, last month.
That run and his subsequent work has the horse as fit as he could be with out having had the benefit of racing.
"I am happy with him, he has done a lot of work and he has got to kick off somewhere," Anderton said.
"He is in the Coupland's Mile and we have got to give him a couple of runs to see if his form is good enough to get there."
Gallant Boy has a strong fresh record, winning and placing in five of his six returning starts.
The galloper produced a stylish win over 1400m in the first run of his campaign last spring.
Gallant Boy will clash with 1400m specialist He Kin Fly in tomorrow's feature.
The Neil Ridley-trained galloper steps up in distance after being unlucky behind his stablemate Prince Oz in a 1200m event last month.
The Riccarton track has been rated in a dead condition this week - just where He Kin Fly likes it.
"He's well and he's going to get the sting out of the track, which helps," Ridley told NZ Racing Desk.
"The hard tracks aren't good for his old joints. But he doesn't take much to keep fit.
"His last run was good. He's trained on nicely and I'm quite happy with him."
Kiwi Ida opened favourite for tomorrow's race.
He Kin Fly will carry 58.5 kg with regular rider Terry Moseley aboard.
The John and Karen Parsons-trained mare went down by just half a neck to Prince Oz two weeks ago.
Kiwi Ida will carry 54.5kg after in-form rider Kozzi Asano claims 3kg from her handicap.
Brett Murray will claim 2kg from lightweight chance Upperhand, who will carry 52kg.
Remington, who has 54kg with rider Ryan Elliot, is another lightweight contender.
