Noel Graham's gallopers are not short of stamina thanks to their work at home, but their slow starts has their trainer scratching his head.

Graham alternates his team between a circular sand track up and down a hill at Abbotsford for their slow work and fast work at Ocean View Beach. His entries for the Wingatui meeting today - Richard Trimbole and Emily Trimbole - had their final workouts yesterday, half a dozen laps of the sand track each.

The Trimbole name comes from Graham's son, Craig, a fan of the Australian television series Underbelly, featuring criminal ''Aussie Bob'' Trimbole.

''Everything that comes out of [the mare] Greta's Way ends up with [the second name] Trimbole,'' Noel Graham said.

''You don't have any trouble naming them [with a first name]... it's normally the stable name.''

Richard Trimbole will contest race 6, a rating 65 event over 1600m.

He was held up in the running twice at Wingatui on March 9 when finishing 10th of 11.

''He needed the run and a bit more ground will help,'' Graham said.

''Normally midfield will suit him - he's just learning, and he can over-race a bit.''

The son of Danske won as a 2yr-old but is still getting to grips with racing and learning to settle.

The 4yr-old, to be ridden by Courtney Barnes, has drawn 7 and faces the in-form mare Norah for Brian and Shane Anderton, along with the Pam Robson-trained Back Burner, who is fresh-up after a strong West Coast campaign in January.

Emily Trimbole faces the same distance and quality of rivals as her half-brother when she jumps from barrier 5 in race 7 - jump being the key factor.

''She can't get out of the gates or when she hits the ground, she's a bit slow getting up there,'' Graham said.

''Hence, she's last or second-last, and having to come round them.

''We'll just hope we can get her out and a bit handier, instead of being two lengths last.''

Emily Trimbole's seventh in the listed 1400m for 3yr-old fillies at Wingatui earlier this month was not without merit. She was hampered at the start and finished 6.1 lengths off winner Annabel Rose, passing several horses in the straight. Chris Johnson has the ride on the Saperavi filly. The track was rated as dead (4) yesterday afternoon.
