Racing: Franco Jamar in mile

Franco Jamar gained an invitation to the Miracle Mile at Menangle on Saturday week after he eclipsed the opposition in the $A77,000 Coca-Cola Sprint at Menangle on Saturday night.

Franco Jamar won by five and a-quarter lengths in 1.52.2. Lisagain, the American pacer having his first start from the stable of Tim Butt, finished second.

Stablemate Raglan won in 1.53.8. He is already in the Miracle Mile after winning the Newcastle Mile.

Smoken Up and Im Themightyquinn have also secured invitations to the eight-horse field. Smoken Up won the New Zealand Free-For-All on Friday and the Miracle Mile last year in 1.50.3. He won the Len Smith Mile in a record 1.48.5 at Menangle in April.

Im Themightyquinn has won his two starts at Gloucester Park in a fresh campaign.

Terror To Love, last-start winner of the New Zealand Cup, has not yet been invited. He will contest the Cordina Sprint (one mile) at Menangle next Saturday. That is a qualifying race for selection this year.

The final four invitees will be named after the race. It seems a formality that Terror To Love will be invited.

Terror To Love is booked on a flight from Christchurch to Sydney on Thursday.

Total Control won at Wyndham yesterday for Graham and Paul Court and Terry McDonald, the trainers and owner of Terror To Love.

The 4yr-old Bettor's Delight-Classy Filly entire cost $38,000 at the 2009 premier yearling sale. He is a half-brother to Classic (1.51.6).
