Three generations of the family were driving in the same race for the first time. Cathy Combo was driven by Lawrence McCormick (22) whose grandfather, Doug (79) is the trainer of mare. Doug races Cathy Combo with his daughter, Susan Roulston.
They bred Cathy Combo.
Doug drove the unplaced Perfect For Us and his son, David, drove the unplaced Shezadorabil. Both horses are trained by Doug.
• Motu Crusader will return to Forbury Park for a Sires' Stakes heat on October 8 after a maiden win last night. Motu Crusader who finished third in his other start, is trained at Winton by Tim White, who races the Courage Under Fire gelding with Doug McLeish.
The same combination won eight races with the trotter, Perfect Hold. They are now breeding from Perfect Hold.
Motu Crusader was an $11,000 purchase at the premier yearling sale.
• Queenaleena began her 3yr-old season with a smart win at Forbury Park last night.
She ran a 2.00.5 mile rate for 1700m (mobile) in showery conditions. She led out, then trailed, regained the lead at the 350m and won by three quarters of a length.
"We bought her here mainly for experience. She pricked her ears all the way down the straight tonight," Roger Price, her Winton co-trainer and part-owner, said.
Queenaleena had a fourth from two starts as a 2yr-old. She had not raced for seven months.
Price trains Queenlana with his daughter-in-law, Katrina Price, and he races the Mach Three-Cadillac Queen filly with his wife, Helen.
The Prices bred Queenaleena, whose dam, Cadillac Queen, has left other winners Prince Of Flight, Cool Queen and Ebony Prince.
Prince Of Flight won five races in NZ and took a record of 1.53.4 in the United States. The Prices also have the 3yr-old filly, Chicago Blues, a runaway winner fresh up at Winton last week.
Chicago Blues and Queenaleena have both been entered for the Sires' Stakes series for 3yr-old fillies.
