Racing: Holme Fire in the frame

Trainer Mark Jones will pin his hopes on Holme Fire in the $170,000 Sires' Stakes Final for 2yr-old fillies at Alexandra Park on Friday night.

He scratched Glenferrie Magic yesterday after she developed a muscular problem.

Glenferrie Magic will return to Canterbury without racing in Auckland. She travelled to Auckland last week after winning a heat of the Sires' Stakes series impressively at Forbury Park on April 21.

"She had a delay in Blenheim through bad weather when making the trip north and that seems to have caused the problem," Jones said.

He said Glenferrie Magic would fly back to Christchurch on Sunday with Holme Fire.

Anthony Butt will remain as the driver of Holme Fire. He drove her to win a heat of the series at Rangiora on March 23.

Mon Star, an acceptor for the Rowe Cup on Friday night, is now trained by Brent Mangos and Hayden Cullen.

Mon Star ran second to Annicka in the Interdominion Consolation when trained by David and Catherine Butt.

Highview Chartom is now trained by Tony Stratford at Invercargill. She won five races, including a heat of the Sires' Stakes at Ascot Park last season when trained by Mark Purdon and Grant Payne.

David Fagan is now with Ian Small at Patumahoe. David Fagan won three races from the Invercargill stable of Gil Shirley and three for Foxton trainer, Peter Scaife.
