Shaun McGarry, the Wingatui trainer, 17-year-old apprentice rider Ryan Hurdle and the lightly-raced 4yr-old Jaggard stole the show at the Otago Racing Club meeting on Saturday with success in the group three $70,000 White Robe Lodge Handicap.

Jaggard, at odds of 75-to-one, led most of the way and lasted by a nose to give Hurdle his biggest win.

Jaggard, the 15-14 favourite in a field of 16, was having his 10th start. It was his third win. The 4yr-old Falkirk-Centastage entire is raced by McGarry, Mark Harper, Hugh Madden and Richard McKnight, all of Dunedin, and Robbie Strawford, of Christchurch.

McGarry, Harper and Madden brought Jaggard in embryo with his dam, Centastage, in 2007 on the advice of Shannon pedigree adviser Ann Meredith.

Centastage (by Centaine) had produced six foals.

"She was about a month off foaling so we sent her back to Falkirk," McGarry said. The resultant filly is a 3yr-old.

The owners have a 2yr-old colt by their own stallion Antrim Lad (by Soviet Star) out of Centastage, who is back running with that stallion.

McGarry, who combines training with self-employment, won the White Robe Handicap with Mary Josephine (1997) and Rhu Lynch (1999) when both horses were 4yr-olds and the stake was $30,000.

• Daniel Bothamley was suspended from Friday until the following Thursday inclusive for careless riding at Wingatui on Saturday.

Bothamley, the rider of Uppland in the Dunedin Guineas, defended a charge of shifting out at the 200m, causing checks to Never Die and Semper Plus.

Never Die made contact with the running rail and became unbalanced near the 800m when racing keenly.

The start of the Dunedin Cup was delayed when Lisa Love was loaded into the wrong barrier and a number of horses had to be reloaded. The starter, Peter Kennedy, was spoken to by stewards about the incident.

The start of the Dunedin Guineas was delayed on two counts.

A replacement cap was required for Bangalore Bullet and a number of horses proved difficult to load.

Sam Spratt was suspended from next Saturday until the following Friday inclusive for careless riding at Te Rapa on Saturday. Spratt, the rider of Canterino, admitted shifting in at the 1100m, crowding Crush Torque and checking Kate.
