Kiwi Ingenuity is competing against 2-3 win horses at the Wyndham Harness Racing Club meeting at Cromwell.
Trained by Robbie Holmes at Balcairn, Kiwi Ingenuity has the fine record of four wins, two seconds and two thirds from 10 starts.
Her other wins included the Southland Oaks at Invercargill and a heat of that series in 1.56.7 at Wyndham.
She has not raced since May when she was checked out of the Harness Jewels race.
"She seems good. The whole idea was to give her a trip away as there were no work-outs or trials at home," Holmes said.
"We have been based at Omakau and she has had a couple of runs on the grass."
Kiwi Ingenuity is using her race today as a lead-up to the Premier Mares Championship and the group one Breeders' Stakes at Addington in the next month.
The stable also has The Tin Man, Ibiza and Margie D engaged at Cromwell.
The first two were placed at Omakau on Friday.
"Ibiza was a bit disappointing at Omakau after trailing but she has since indicated she is coming in season which may have been an explanation."
Roman Gladiator, beaten a nose by Waihemo Cullen in the Cromwell Cup 12 months ago, will have a big following in the race today.
He will again start from 30m.
Roman Gladiator was having his first race for three months when he came from the rear of the field on the inner for third to Rocket Reign and Waipawa Lad in the Central Otago Cup at Omakau on Friday.
Light Hearted, a winner at Omakau and rival for Roman Gladiator, will be having his first standing start race.
Peter Davis, the Christchurch reinsman, is making his first appearance on the circuit today.
His drives include Notverychristianlike (race 3), Franco Sandman (race 7), Domination (race 5) and Vital Force (race 6).
He drove Notverychristianlike to win at Forbury Park on December 12.
Vital Force and Dominations, members of the Levels stable of Murray Tapper, were both placed at Omakau on Friday when Franco Sandman finished second.
