There is more than feature race glory on the line for the Stonewall Stud team.

Trainers Steve and Amanda Telfer start two live winning chances in the group 2 Alabar Southern Supremacy Stakes Final tomorrow in Spicey Lou and Get Seaside Lucky.

The Telfers and driver Tim Williams know what it takes to win the 3-year-old feature, having produced Ohoka Connor and Built For Glory to score in 2023 and 2024.

Williams has been driving both Stonewall pacers in the lead-up to Diamonds Day and it looked like Get Seaside Lucky’s outstanding autumn form would mean he would team up with the stable’s No1 driver.

But two factors have resulted in Williams jumping over to Spicey Lou’s sulky.

‘‘I’d be happy to drive either of them. They are both lovely horses and the timing of this race is perfect for both of them.

‘‘But when Spicey Lou drew behind one of the better chances in the race, I went with him.‘‘I hope I have made the right decision. I wouldn’t be surprised if Get Seaside Lucky beat us home.’’

In choosing Spicey Lou, Williams gets the opportunity to deliver something of a sentimental win for Stonewall Stud’s Steve and Jill Stockman.

‘‘We lost his sister, Spicey Crunch. She was a lovely filly who was looking like she was going to do a huge job.

‘‘She came down and won on Invercargill Cup day and it was
a big win.

‘‘Steve and Jill bred her and this guy and we also have an Always B Miki filly to keep the breed going.

‘‘The stable is well known for buying at the sales but we have a pretty decent number of homebreds too.

‘‘It would mean a lot for Steve and Jill if this guy could get the job done.’’

Jonny Cox takes the reins behind Get Seaside Lucky on Diamonds Day.

Williams admitted he would not be surprised at all if it plays out that Get Seaside Lucky proves to be the better winning chance.

‘‘He’s a lovely horse and he’s been flying lately.

‘‘The second row is against his usual strengths with his gate speed, but he just needs a touch of luck to be right in it.

‘‘The timing of the race is ideal for both horses, they seem to have thrived on the racing they have had.

‘‘Spicey Lou has been a big improver between his races and now is the perfect time to have a crack at a race like this.’’

Stonewall Stud will bring a strong team to Diamonds Day, a meeting at which the stable has had plenty of success in recent years.

Elektra King (race 11) and Princess Lisa (race 1) look to rate among the stable’s biggest winning threats tomorrow.
