Williams (24) has just three drives at the Dunedin track but all three horses look to have chances in their respective events, continuing a trend for Williams this season.
The former Cantabrian, who has been living in Southland for 18 months, has established a good strike rate this season with 20 wins and 35 placings from just 135 drives.
''I'm slowly starting to pick up momentum,'' Williams said.
''I haven't had massive numbers, but I've had quality drives when I've had drives, which has probably been the difference this year.''
Williams begins his night with Waitoto Express in race 5, the 2200m c1-c2 trot. The 6yr-old, trained by Stu Campbell at North Taieri, is edging ever closer to a win, having finished no further back than fifth in his last five starts.
''That field's going to suit him again, and the 2200m is going to suit him. He's pretty reliable at the start nine times out of 10.
''He's going to put himself in the right spot to win, so he's got to be a chance. It's quite an even field tomorrow night and he's not far away from getting his turn.''
Williams has been looking after Stradowan (race 6) for Leeston trainers Terry and Glenys Chmiel since Saturday. He has been rewarded with a drive behind the 4yr-old mare in the c3-c6 pace where she is surrounded by handy pacers such as Roo Star, Kid Galahad and Expressionist at the 2700m standing start point.
''Terry actually left it with me after Invercargill last week.
''I'll drive it tomorrow night and then I think it's going home to Terry's after that.''
Well-travelled
The daughter of Grinfromeartoear has been well-travelled in recent weeks, racing at Addington, Blenheim and Invercargill since resuming in early December, but Williams said she had handled the trips well.
''I haven't had to do much with her. She's handled it pretty well - she hasn't missed a feed so she's bright enough. If anything, Terry thought she would improve with the run the other day.''
That sixth placing at Invercargill got the thumbs up from her previous driver, Blair Orange, considering the fast final quarter of 27.2sec.
''I talked to Blair yesterday and he was pretty happy with it the other day. She was four or five wide from the 400m.
''Those runs at Blenheim were pretty good, so if she can finish off her races like that, she won't be too far away.''
Williams also renews an association with Westwood Beach trainer Graeme Anderson, with whom he enjoyed success with Arma Courage (two wins) last winter.
Clifton Venture had no luck at Roxburgh last start, getting carted back through the field, but Williams expects the 5yr-old to be competitive from his second-line draw.
''Its previous form looks all right and Graeme usually has them ready to rumble.''
Williams heads to Addington tomorrow for another crack at a mares' feature, when Here We Go Again tries to lower the colours of Adore Me in the group 1 breeders stakes.
''Jamie [Gameson] has got her back on song again from where he had her as a 3yr-old when she was competitive with the good fillies.
''It's probably a tricky enough draw . . . with having those other ones inside me. But provided they go reasonably hard, that's going to suit me, too. The harder she goes, the better she likes it. She won't disgrace herself.''
