Racing: Top chance

Auckland Reactor, who is back starting in the unruly position, has the chance to regain winning form in the Louisson Handicap at Addington tonight.

He has prejudiced his chance in two starts this season by tangling at the start.

The last time he started from the unruly position he won the Ashburton Flying Stakes 12 months ago.

He shares the unruly position tonight with Sir Lincoln, who has not raced for six weeks since he won the Spring Cup, a 2200m standing start at Alexandra Park.

He was subsequently troubled by a virus and foot abscess. He was withdrawn from the $600,000 New Zealand Trotting Cup on Tuesday week.

Pure Power needs to perform well tonight to ensure a berth in the New Zealand Cup field. He is first emergency in the latest rankings.

Pembrook Benny, who is sixth in the Cup rankings, has been scratched tonight due to a blood disorder.

"He is a little high in his white cell count and I will treat him and run him in the Cup trial on Wednesday," Barry Purdon, his trainer, said.

Ellmer Hanover, the winner of two of his last three starts, has been scratched from race 11. He will also have a run at the trials on Wednesday.

His trainer Brendon Hill said he was pleased with Beach Bunny (race 2) and Lady Godiva ( race 6).

"Lady Godiva worked well on Wednesday. We have let her hopples out," Hill said.

Franco Nelson, who staged a big run for second to Classiesistar in a heat of the Sires' Stakes last week, could be the stumbling block for Lady Godiva. Scratchings have brought him into barrier five, although still on the outside of the front line.

The New Zealand Trotting Cup and Melbourne Cup were run on the same day in 1990. The winners respectively were Neroship, trained and driven by John Langdon, and Kingston Rule, trained by Bart Cummings.
